Alright, so it’s a hot summer’s day, and you go to turn your AC unit on…only to realise that little to no air is actually coming out of it!

Are you aware that your aircon may break down, even if you believe you have been upkeeping it well? Your aircon needs to be serviced, through its lifecycle. You should contact an air conditioning specialist as soon as you see something isn’t quite right with your unit. That way you can get it repaired before it stops working completely, or for any damage that exists…to get worse!

Here are some key signs that you may need to service your aircon today.

1 You aren’t getting cool air coming out of your aircon

If this isn’t a tell-tale sign, we don’t know what is! If the air coming from the vents is not as cold as you are used to, then it is a sign to pick up the phone and get it checked out. Not blowing cold air, even at a maximum setting can be an indicator of a damaged compressor. You should get your aircon checked out if this is the case, what use is an aircon that doesn’t keep you cool!

2 Limited or no airflow

Another giveaway sign! If air is not circulating throughout the house, then you need to have it checked out right away. Limited or no airflow can be a result of dirt and dust that has accumulated in the vent and has obstructed the ductwork. A myriad of issues can cause this problem, such as clogged filters or a blocked ductwork. Regardless, it takes a professional to inspect and fix this. A failing compressor can also cause a reduced airflow, and regular use of the unit can cause wear and tear that reduces the efficiency of the compressor.

3 Pungent odours and odd sounds

What’s that smell…and that sound?!

When your unit starts releasing a stench or making unusual sounds, it’s your aircons way of telling you that its servicing time. Are you hearing the sound of metal grinding on another metal? Then you should turn off the system right away and don’t use it until someone takes a look at it. In this case it is only a matter of time before the system may completely come to a halt.

In terms of smells, a musty smell, could mean there’s mould growth within your ductwork, which can have toxic implications for your household. On the other hand, a burning smell from the air conditioner may be a sign of burnt wire insulation.

4 You witness aircon leaks

Leakage is NEVER a good sign. Trust us. If the refrigerant is leaking out of your air conditioner, be prompt with taking action. This is more than just a faulty aircon, rather the refrigerant can be potentially dangerous to people and your household pets! If water is coming out of your unit, then you could have a clogged drain tube.
